| MPC Participates in Groundhog Shadow Day by: Tommie Smith, Nate Steplight, Prapti Sheth and William Jackson.
We are a part of the job shadow program. We are all from different schools that have come togehter to put forth this paper. There is Tommie Smith, a junior at Johnson High, Nate Steplight, a junior from Johnson High, Prapti Sheth, a senior from Johnson and William Jackson, a junior from Groves High. We had fun today because we lerned may different things about the MPC and how they operate. For instance, osme of the jobs they hold help the city and county to run or helop decide if we should use a certain area for a particular use. They help make the decisions affecting the good of the community. Zonng is a great example - zoning determines whre you can or cannot put certain things in a community and establishes a process that allows all parties to air any disputes with that decision. William also accompanied Alerman Van Johnson to a ribbon cuttiong cerimony at Muscle, a fitness shop opening in Savannah. During this portion, William discussed his plans for college. William says " Mr. Van Johnson gave me great advice on what I should major in college and about life in general." Prapti accompanined MPC staff member Jackie Jackson and visited Mosquito control. While there, she spoke to the employees; and states "I learned what have to do to protect the environment and what they have to do to protect us." All in all, we had different experiences, but we feel we recieved valuable information about the government and how MPC contributes to government operation in Chatham County. We also learned how small jobs help bigger jobs work collectively, many of which we take for granted. We think the information and experiences whe had today will have a great influence on our future choices in life. |
