| Other Studies, Research, and Plans Report of the Gentrification Task Force. The MPC convened the Gentrification Task Force in order to formalize discussion of the gentrification and to addres three specific concerns: identification of neighborhoods vulnerable to gentrification; assessment of the impacts of proposed Mid-City rezoning; and development of policies and strategies for the Comprehensive Plan. Community Greenspace Plan. Chatham County and all eight municipalities developed a Community Greenspace Program in 2000 in association with the Georgia Greenspace Program. Under this program, State grants were combined with local SPLOST revenues to fund acquisition of the Islands Nature Park on Whitemarsh Island. SPLOST funds were allocated to municipalities for acquisition and permanent protection of greenspace within their jurisdictions. Chatham County is expected to review the program in 2005 and adjust priorities as needed. Coastal Georgia Affordable Housing Conference Proceedings. The cost of housing in Coastal Georgia is increasing faster than in man other regions. The MPC, in association with the Coastal Georgia Regional Development Center and the Savannah Homebuilders Association held a conference on this issue in December 2003. Confernece proceedings are available through the Regional Development Center offices in Brusnwick.. Multi-Family Housing Report. The MPC updated its study of multi-family housing in Chatham County in 2006. The report contains information on the number of units in Chatham County, vacancy rates, and rent levels. Joint Land Use Study for Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Air Field. The MPC is working with the Coastal Georgia Regional Development Center, The Department of Defense, and EDAW, inc. to identify land use issues along the perimeter of these facilities. The MPC has focused its research on the underdeveloped lands to the west of Hunter Army Air Field. |
