City of Savannah Area Plans

Downtown Master Plan.

Downtown Savannah has been the subject of many studies and plans, yet there is no single, overarching strategic plan to provide vision and guiding principles for new development and redevelopment in the area. Recognizing the need, City Council is funding development of a master plan, assisted by the Savannah Development and Renewal Authority and the MPC.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Montgomery Street Corridor Plan.

Inappropriate zoning, disinvestment, and blight have been issues in the corridor for many years. Now, as downtown Savannah thrives and investment potential increases in the corridor, this area faces new challenges. The MPC, in association with the Savannah Development and Renewal Authority, is developing a land use and zoning plan for the corridor.

Mid-City Land Use and Rezoning Plan (for Baldwin Park, Metropolitan, and Thomas Square neighborhoods).

Inappropriate zoning and blight have been issues in these neighborhoods for many years. The MPC recommended approval of a new plan and a comprehensive rezoning fo the Mid-City area in November, 2003. After requesting additional review, City Council will hear the revised MPC proposal on December 9, 2004.

Westside Land Use and Zoning Plan (for Brickyard, Hudson Hill, West Savannah, and Woodville neighborhoods).

Commercial intrusion, industrial impact, blight and inappropriate zoning have been issues in these neighborhoods for many years. Now as downtown Savannah begins expanding beyond the Historic District, these communities face additional pressures. The MPC, in association with Savannah's Departments of Housing, Economic Development, and Neighborhood Planning, is developing comprehensive strategies for redevelopment in this area.
