Transportation planning is the process of identifying transportation problems and looking for solutions to those problems. Transportation planners work on getting people to and from their destinations safely and in a timely manner, but in a way that preserves our communities and keeps our air and water clean. Transportation planning for the Savannah area is carried out by the Coastal Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (CORE MPO).  more

CORE MPO has certified ARRA funds for transit improvements in Savannah, GA. For more information, please click here.

CORE MPO has initiated the development of the next Long Range Transportation Plan. Meetings with stakeholders and the members of public took place in early June. For more details, or to submit your own comments, please click here.

CORE MPO adopted several amendments to the 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) and the FY 2008-2011 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) at the June 24 meeting. For information on the adopted projects, please click the links below.

CORE MPO is inviting you to review and provide comments on priority establishment for the FY 2010-2013 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). For details on how to participate, please click here. For information on the TIP priority, please click here.

CORE MPO made the amendments to the FY 2008-2011 Transportation Improvement Program at the February 25, 2009 meeting to incorporate the GDOT proposed project changes and the stimulus funded projects. For the complete list of the projects amended in February 2009, please click here.

In March, GDOT refined the stimulus project list and decided to fund three projects in Chatham County for Phase 1 implementation. For the complete list of the GDOT Phase 1 projects in Chatham County, please click here.

CORE MPO refined the February stimulus projects and adopted a financially-constraint list in April 2009. For more information on the recommended ARRA funded projects, please click here.

CORE MPO also deleted a series of projects from the February list recommended for ARRA funding. These projects will continue to be funded through the regular fundng sources such as the Surface Transportation Program. For this deleted project list, please click here.

CORE MPO also amended the transit section of the TIP to incorporate corrections of funding in several transit programs. For more information, please click here.

On April 30, 2009 the CORE Board adopted the revised Coordinated Public Transit - Human Services Transportation Plan for the Savannah Area (HST) and the Program Management Plan (PMP). The Coordinated Plan identifies the transportation needs of the disabled, the elderly, and the economically disadvantaged and provides prioritized strategies for implementation to meet these needs. The Program Management Plan outlines how the Chatham Area Transit Authority (CAT) and the CORE MPO conduct the coordinated planning process, grant application and administration. In March 2009, CORE MPO invited eligible agencies to submit project proposals for public transit – human services project funding. Five proposals have been received. The Stakeholder Resource Group evaluated all the proposals and recommended allocating funds to the projects in April 2009. A Program of Projects (POP) has been developed.
