Detailed Plans for Corridors or Areas

CORE MPO recognizes that Chatham County communities are concerned not just about the function of transportation projects, but also about the form of the projects and their impacts on the area’s assets.

Detailed plans for corridors or areas will become part of the Total Mobility Plan to incorporate Context Sensitive Design and the Complete Streets policy early in the development of future transportation projects. These plans will help achieve integration of land use and transportation and help gain community support for projects.

The MPO’s efforts to protect scenic, historic, and canopied corridors began in 2003, when the MPO staff initiated the Transportation Amenities Plan. The next step was development of the Context Sensitive Design manual during 2006 and 2007 to guide implementation.

More recently, the MPO adopted in the Framework Mobility Plan a policy to “ensure that context sensitive design and all Complete Streets elements are an integral part of the design process for all non-interstate highway projects.”

Additional information and opportunities for involvement will be posted here as work begins on this element of the Total Mobility Plan. Back to Total Mobility Plan page...
