Local Historic Districts, Conservation Districts, and Historic Properties

What is a local historic district and what does it do?

Savannah's local historic districts are some of the most highly valued and sought-after neighborhoods in the City. A local historic district is an area deemed significant to the city's cultural fabric that is protected through a local ordinance. This designation can stabilize property values and provide protection for our City's heritage. Designation can prevent unregulated and insensitive change to the neighborhood's fabric. A preservation ordinance is a local statute that provides for designating historic resources and creates design standards.
